Misun Won started her career in jewellery in 1998 in her home country of South Korea. She completed a Masters degree course and worked as artist in residency at Edinburgh College of Art. She developed her jewellery designs from her experiences of relocating 'Home' and the organic relationship between human beings and culture. Misun views her jewellery as a vehicle that conveys the similarities and differences between Scottish and Korean cultures that she has observed.
Misun Won is inspired by Korean traditional patch worked wrapping cloth 'Jogakbo' and its scientific interpretation with fractal geometry theory.
Keum-boo (also Kum-Boo or Kum-buKorean "attached gold") is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of gold to silver, to make silver-gilt. Traditionally, this technique is accomplished by first depleting a surface of sterling silver to bring up a thin layer of fine silver. Then 24 carat gold foil is applied with heat and pressuremechanical gildingto produce a permanent diffusion bond.
