The potential of glass, as an exciting medium for expressive art, has long been under-appreciated. This is rapidly changing as studio glass artists become more adventurous and as fine artists increasingly value its unique properties and versatility and begin to utilise this extraordinary medium in their art.
We feel it is important to acknowledge Peter Layton as someone who has done more than most to advance/further the development of glass as a creative medium for artistic expression.
Peter, affectionately considered the 'grand old man' of British glass will turn 80 next year. Coincidentally his studio, London Glassblowing, among the first in Europe is also celebrating its 40th anniversary as a vibrant creative hub.In the last 40 years scores of talented glassmakers have worked under his tutelage, producing incredible collaborative projects and individual works of glass art.
This exhibition is proposed to mark the occasion, and to celebrate his long and active involvement with the international studio glass movement, in particular his important contribution at the forefront of the British Glass scene.
Peter Layton will be attending the private view on Friday 22 April, please contact us to book a place for a free mini talk by Peter before the private view at 5.45pm.
