Jennie Ing

Biography

Jennie's work is inspired by an interest in architecture, a fascination with the way space is taken up in our cities and what it is that gives a place its identity. This, combined with her love of the patterns, repetitions and colours found in the built environment lead to her colourful layered linocut prints. Much of her work is of London's iconic buildings, but some is of lesser known views and of landmark buildings in other cities.

Jennie works in relief print, using the reduction method to achieve her layers of bold colour. This involves printing each colour separately, with the successive cutting away of areas from the surface of a flat block of lino, inking the remaining area and printing from this onto paper, continuing until the finished print is achieved. All of this is done by hand, and the printing taking place on her Victorian albion press. With the reduction block there is no going back and the whole edition must be finished at the same time.

She is a member of Greenwich Printmakers, Southbank Printmakers and the Fountain Gallery at Hampton Court, and shows work at various galleries and art fairs including The London Affordable Art Fair, The Landmark Arts Centre Art Fair, the Urban Art Fair in Brixton and the Brighton Art Fair. She has work in collections at Johnson Matthey's London office, BNY Mellon (Brentwood) and the London Councils office, as well as having work in other collections in both the UK and abroad. Recently Blue Island Press published a range of her cards which are now being sold in Central London Paperchase stores.
