Porter + Trundle
Porter + Trundle was set up in 2019 by British artists Sarah Emily Porter and James Trundle after discovering a shared interest in material manipulation. From their South London workshop they create playful, sculptural works that remind us to be both bold and daring. Using traditional techniques, they manipulate materials into ambiguous forms that are unconstrained by the expectations associated with the material. The application of colour obscures the craftsmanship invested, further simplifying the forms to allow them to drift into pure abstraction. Occupying the space between fine art and design, the functional and the dysfunctional, their work exhibits the perfect fusion of colour, form, and craftsmanship with a meticulous attention to detail.
Their body of work gives agency to the collector to rearrange the work creating their own unique colour combinations and forms. As a dynamic and constantly evolving dialogue, this work is never fully resolved. It is in an eternal conversation that only grows in its richness and complexity the more it is manipulated. In 2019 they won the London Festival of Architecture City Benches Competition and Richard Seager Annual Arts Award. Their works have been published in numerous leading Design articles including Wallpaper*, Deezen and Elle Decoration.
Porter + Trundle is the Winner of the Rising Stars 2021 Award.
