Harry Chadwick is a sculptural artist, working predominantly in metal and glass. Harry seamlessly melds craftsmanship with artistic ingenuity, specialising in welding, folding, and forming metal into intricate sculptural pieces that capture passing light with a dynamic sense of movement.
Drawing inspiration from his previous career as an engineer, welder, and fabricator, Harry's sculptures feature familiar silhouettes of tools, meticulously cut from steel and powder-coated in vibrant colours. Pop Art colours running through all the artworks is his common theme of bringing colour and joy into people's lives.
Each of Harry's creations is designed to prompt introspection, evoke nostalgia, and occasionally, simply elicit a 'why?' from the viewer. He is committed to fostering discussion and believes that art should serve as a catalyst for bringing people together through meaningful conversations.
Harry utilised the Rising Stars award money towards the purchase of much-needed grinding discs for his glass grinder, a crucial tool. It is used for his new work 'Seers' which is an observation of the human condition and each observer may interpret them differently, depending on how they feel and perceive them.

An exciting and ambitious new collection of paintings by Hampshire based artist Dan Jones.
In his latest show, Dan Jones takes us on a riverside journey spanning the course of one year documenting through paint the seasonal shifts of his local river, The Blackwater.
Dan returned time again to work alongside a specific stretch of the Blackwater Valley, the north end of her journey through Berkshire's Swallowfield. It's here where she meanders through woodland, wildflower meadows and cornfields near where her voyage comes to an end as she joins the river Loddon.
From the mauves and ochres of autumn to the luscious greens of the summer, Dan's work will transport viewers to chilly and damp mornings to sun-drenched and humid afternoons. This is a rich and diverse body of work containing both intimate and large-scale paintings to engage with.

We recognise there is a lack of representation from Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ makers and makers who identify as having a visible or non-visible disability in the Southast region. To address this imbalance, 52% of Rising Stars makers are from one of the underrepresented groups, making it a great and diverse showcase of early career talent.
The shortlisted makers were selected by a panel of judges; Dan Goode (Making Goode), Dr Outi Remes (New Ashgate Gallery), Sharon Ting (University for the Creative Arts, Textiles).
Jess Skelton was awarded a professional development prize of £1,000 and a solo exhibition in 2025 on March 15th. The winner was selected by Debra Allman (UCA), Dr Outi Remes, and Dan Goode. Samuel Cheeseman and Youyou Wang were acknowledged as the runner-ups in the competition.
Rising Stars 2024 is organised by New Ashgate Gallery in partnership with the University for the Creative Arts and Dan Goode of Making Goode. It is supported by The Radcliffe Trust and Billmeir Charitable Trust.

Sarah Spackman stands out as a contemporary figurative artist, renowned for her exquisite still life oil paintings, created in a studio in Oxford, once a punt building workshop.
One of the hallmark qualities of Sarah's art is her delicate and nuanced use of colour. Central to her practice is the belief that solid drawing forms the bedrock of exceptional painting, with colour serving to enrich the organisation and definition of observed space and form. Sarah's method involves meticulous observation, resulting in paintings that are quiet - yet powerful - in their presence, captivating the viewer. Her works scrutinise everyday objects, extracting them from the ordinary and compelling the observer to perceive anew.
Sarah, an alumna of the Byam Shaw School of Art, London, and a 1981 graduate from Camberwell School of Art, was elected as a member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) in 2019 and joined the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) in 2022. She is also affiliated with the Small Paintings Group and the Oxford Art Society. Sarah's art adorns private collections globally, including the prestigious Allied Irish Bank collection. Her pieces have been featured in esteemed exhibitions such as the Jerwood Drawing Competition, the NEAC, the ROI, the RBA, and the Discerning Eye Exhibitions.

Although born and educated in East London, Jacky's artistic roots are in rural landscape. Her work, whether inspired by the quaint charm of Cornwall or the hidden gems of Hampshire, showcases a profound appreciation for colour, texture, and the nuanced interplay of light and shadow. Her graphic design training comes through in bold mark making and in the strong compositions.
The exhibition is an invitation to explore the varied landscapes that have inspired Jacky's creativity, she brings forth the unique character of each location, drawing on experiences in St Ives, Farnham, Fleet, and Winchfield.
