John Bryce

Before retirement John Bryce worked as a research scientist at the Royal Aerospace Establishment, Farnborough. He now pursues an active career as a painter and printmaker.
As a wood engraver, John produces original limited edition prints. The process involves engraving an image onto an end-grain boxwood block. This is then inked and printed onto paper using a Victorian Albion Press. His subjects are often London and river based, inspired by his watercolour sketches. John is very influenced by the effects of light as they occur in the sky, on buildings and on water and he has tried to depict this in his recent wood engravings. He uses the engraving tools to cut a variety of marks on the block to express the drama and mood of an experienced event.
