In 2004, founder Jonathan Hitchcock, a design graduate from Bournemouth university, began his journey in the field of engineering, designing orthopaedic hip and knee joints for the medical industry. Over the years he has worked on countless projects across many disciplines from industrial rugged tablet computers for leading manufacturers through to robotic motion control solutions for the Hollywood film industry.
Having grown out of the traditional constraints of big business, SurreyWoodsmiths now perform furniture-making magic at a beautiful studio in a 90 acre farm situated in the rolling hills of Surrey.
SurreyWoodsmiths designs are ideas-based and combine art with function. They play on biomimetic design principles, fusing traditional design and craftsmanship with state of the art technologies. The innovative and original designs are inspired by nature and made with passion.
