Bow: Installation by Flora Gare

Rainbows have become a symbolic of hope and peace but one of the oldest recordings of a rainbow is in the bible as a promise from God to Noah that he would never again send a flood to destroy earth. It has also been used to describe a bridge connecting earth to heaven, or to a brighter, place full of hope.

Bow is a large scale installation in the form of an arc suspended from the gallery ceiling, engaging with the architecture and natural light. It is made frompoured liquid resin, allowed to take its own form, then combined with stretched photographic images. The resulting layered patterns resemble a landscape of reflected light or frozen ice taking the themes of stretching time and distorted memories.

After completing a BA Hons, Fine Art, Flora started the MA Sculpture at Winchester School of Art. Flora has been Artist in Residence at the Farnham Maltings, received a grant for the project research at Frimley Park Hospital and completed another residency at St Andrew's Church, Farnham. She has created work for the Royal London Hospital and was Artist in Residence at St Catherine's School, Bramley, creating large living willow sculpture with the students and a light sculpture commission for the school.
