Helen Restorick

Helen is an artist working with and exploring the properties of kiln-formed glass as a material, often with reference to a biological theme. She has previously worked in medicine and genetics but is now a full-time glass artist based in Surrey. She completed an MA (Glass) in 2023 at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham.

Current work explores flow patterns in glass and has been researched and developed during her degree. Helen approaches her work in a methodical and scientific way to push the unique, fascinating properties of glass to the full. By learning about and controlling the viscosity of glass, she has been able to create novel and intriguing patterns. These patterns of flow were initially inspired by blood flow in the human body but have move beyond this to inform flow in a variety of contexts both in the natural world and human psychology. She looks to find beauty in the finished piece and wants to invoke engagement with the viewer.
