A painting is both a tangible object and also an illusion. Alice creates a sense of depth and space, fabricating a place you can escape to. In these larger scale works she has explored this idea of flipping between two states; a fast energy and slowly controlled sweeps of paint to give dynamic paintings which are deceptively simple.
The paintings are created both vertically and horizontally over many sessions. There is a sense of impossibility as the evidence of the artist's marks and drips contradict the sweeping pools of liquid paint which must lie still. Brights shimmer under layers of softer colour and then spring to life giving areas of gentle transition and bold brush marks.
Alice worked as a graphic designer before making the move to fine art and now works from her studio in West London. Her abstract landscapes are owned worldwide, licensed for John Lewis and used for high-end interiors.
