Angela Brittain is an Abstract Expressionist, influenced and inspired by movement and colour. Angela paints the body language of her sitters. She approaches a canvas with a direct idea of the composition, palette and artistic fundamentals but comes from a place of emotion where a feeling is expressed in terms of harmony and discord. As Angela applies the colours that best express the feelings, the form of the work begins to emerge: her figures and places are created, and a painting emerges. Her work has evolved through a long process - from her traditional training in graphic design eventually emerging as the work we see today.
The viewer finds elements that they can relate to in the paintings. Angela tells a story but invites the viewer fill in the blanks. There is no right or wrong, just each individual's interpretation. Angela's favourite painting is always the most recent one she's completed. It is the closest to her heart at that moment. They may not all be masterpieces, but the love is there all the same in that moment in time.
