Helen's main interest and inspiration in her art has always been the natural world and living forms, she is especially interested in trees and plants. Helen usually work in printmaking, ranging from etching to relief on woodblock and Lino.
These works are part of a series combining woodcut prints with hand-colouring in watercolour. Helen has introduced painting to her work to give me a greater range of colour, detail and texture to better show her intention which is to explore the natural world of trees, plants and flowers. Showing the amazing variety of colour and shape, the sheer diversity of what can grow in our own back gardens. They depict the same area of Helen's garden through different seasons, the planting is designed to attract wildlife as much as possible and at different times of the year.
These are plants which are bred and live in 'captivity', a possible future for many plant species, and for our experience of them, certainly those which may not be able to survive and adapt to long term changes to their environment and the threats brought by climate change.
Helen has a MA in printmaking, and has worked in Milton Keynes as a community artist, adult education tutor and workshop leader, and then, most recently as Director of MK Arts for Health the arts charity based in Milton Keynes Hospital.
