Olivia's work is an interpretation of Japanese architecture and design theory, particularly the work of Tadao Ando. She was intrigued by the way in which the architect designed each structure to specifically complement each site, whilst taking great consideration to conserve the beautiful scenery. Thus, her degree show collection of brooches aims to reinterpret the concrete buildings, shadows, scenery and sky into wearable pieces.
By reconstructing the geometric shapes of the buildings, she has created striking intersections to mirror the contrast between light and the cold, hard concrete structure created by Ando. Adding vivid texture, colour and finishes further contrasts nature and architecture.
Since graduating in June, she has been continuing this collection through necklaces and earrings. To further mirror Japanese minimalist aesthetic and philosophy, she has continued exploring Ando's geometric structures to create jewellery with balance, simplicity and strong technical design.
Olivia is based in Glasgow.
