Carolyn Tripp is a classically trained ceramic artist; she received her degree in ceramics from Camberwell School of Art under the professorship of Richard Slee in the 1990's.
She took inspiration from her mother's collection of blue and white china. Inspired by this aesthetic, her own decoration uses hand screen printed designs which tell stories from her life, past and present, significant and banal. She tears and rearranges her autobiographical words and images as she applies them to the surface of her ceramics, creating more abstract decoration and thus taking on new meaning. Seeking to give each piece its own identity, she mixes patterns and glazes to create work that displays individuality even when grouped collectively.
All Carolyn's work is hand thrown in her studio at Wimbledon Art Studios. She likes to create shapes dictated by the feel of the porcelain clay and is captivated by the bottle shape in particular. In addition to my own practices she holds a board and teaching position at Studio 306 Collective, a social enterprise based in Wood Green, London. She is also an associate member of the Craft Potters Association and a member of London Potters charity.
