Susan works with print processes in a variety of media and has developed her own unique method of fusing man-made and natural materials to create incised and textured surfaces. She graduated from Goldsmiths College with a BA(hons) in Textiles and is currently studying for an MA in printmaking at the Royal College of Art.
Susan's practice explores ideas of paradise. Artifice and a dislocation from the natural world are key themes in her work and stem from her own experience of nature within an urban environment as being fragmented and synthetic. She questions the loss of a real experience of nature at a time when ecological concerns require us to reassess our relationship in more concrete terms. Looking back to the myths and legends of ancient times she is fascinated to discover an ongoing belief in a time when we lived in harmony with nature. She is interested in how dreams of paradise influence our shared aesthetic sensibility and the desire for perfection in nature which in turn feeds into the design of social spaces, municipal intervention and the ultimate physical transformation of the built landscape.
