Trevor Chaplin initially trained in architecture, then as a teacher specialising in ceramics and design (1970-73). He is now a full-time potter working with soda-glazed stoneware. His pots reflect the many patterns and energies surrounding his home and studio in rural Wiltshire where he is surrounded by rolling downland and like the mists drifting up from the valleys he uses thick clay slips to texture and sculpt the surfaces of his pots. The pots are finally fired to a temperature of 1300leaving the flame to do its work, to carry the soda through the kiln; etching a lethal passage over every surface. The sodium creates surface colourations and textures individual to each pot leaving a unique signature on every piece. Trevor's pots are all soda glazed, functional and individual.
