Margaret Knott studied at Saint Martin's School of Art in the fifties. Her tutors included Bernard Cheese, Frederick Gore and Roger Nicholson. She worked in advertising for some years at CPV, Ogilvy & Mather, and Hans Schleger & Associates on many accounts including British Lion Films, Fortnum & Mason, Jaeger and the Edinburgh Festival, and her work was published in Designers in Britain. She learnt ceramics at Putney Adult Education Institute and later taught it there and at the John Lewis Partnership. Margaret started etching at Putney School of Art in 1990, where she had a solo exhibition, and has exhibited in Paris and at numerous UK exhibitions. Recently she. started monoprinting with silkscreen and uses this process to capture the fleeting qualities of mood in landscape and says 'my prints have been greatly influenced by my work as a designer.
