Jack Durling

Biography

Jack Durling graduated from the University of Brighton in 2014 and went on to establish his studio at Rosehill Workshops. He hand-builds hollow formed ceramic sculptures that are aesthetically decorative, using mediums such as lustres, glaze and slip to subtly highlight conservational issues.

Jack's collections depict animal species that are either in mass decline, endangered or are exploited as a direct consequence of human activity. Emotively driven, his love of animals has led him to sculpturally tell the stories of species that cannot speak for themselves. This narrative actively creates awareness of the natural environment's delicate balance.

Jack is actively engaged in his local community and has run workshops to create tactile ceramic murals with The Blind Veteran Society and The Aldrich Collection. Keen on education, he has held visiting artist workshops at his old secondary school in Maidstone, where he first developed his love of ceramic sculpture.

Jack is based in Brighton.
