Alison's work is inspired by the natural landscape. She loves to explore the ways that clay takes on the physical and visual aspects of the natural environment. In this way they become like 3 dimensional paintings or sculptural pieces in their own right, decorated with Alison's own recipes of coloured slips and engobes. The sense of movement is very important and each piece is first thrown on a wheel and then altered whilst retaining the finger ripples made through the process of throwing.

'I originally trained as a dancer and graduated from the University of Roehampton with a degree in Dance and Art. However, an injury thwarted my intentions for a career in dance so I retrained in lighting design and worked as a designer in theatre, dance & architecture, as well as teaching at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. It was during this time that I discovered ceramics at evening class and did courses with the Cardew Pottery, Deborah Baynes and Kevin Millward. Having been completely absorbed and captivated by ceramics, I made the leap to go and study at the Royal Forest of Dean College, Gloucs, graduating with a diploma in Studio Ceramics and the Michael Casson award. I set up my own studio in 2000 and I'm a member of London Potters. I've exhibited at a range of galleries including; Yew Tree Gallery, Cornwall, New Brewery Arts, Gloucs, Paddon & Paddon, Sussex, City Hall & the RAC Club, London and generally make work to commission. Although I continue to work in the arts as a Producer, (previously with Siobhan Davies Dance, Fevered Sleep & Entelechy Arts) I'm now trying to find more time for my own artwork.'
