Caroline Finlay

Biography

Caroline Finlay is inspired by the coastline; the textures, colours and patterns it evokes, the tide, seasons and life cycles.

Caroline works in silver and vitreous enamel. Enamel allows her to introduce colour into the work and she uses a palette that echoes her inspiration.

Caroline is happy to let a piece develop in the making process; allowing the natural characteristics of different techniques to interact. She explores jewellery making and enamelling techniques to create mark making, form and colour. Each stage is made by hand; Caroline prefers the fluidity this gives her work; nothing is identical or repeated, no pattern is exactly the same. She enjoys the connection this gives her with each piece and the spontaneity that experimenting with enamel allows.
