Katie Timson

Biography

"The beauty of the natural world never fails to inspire me and I feel most alive when exploring outdoors. I particularly love birds and I find myself constantly distracted by them, be it by sight or song. I have fond memories of watching and listening to wading birds whilst staying with my gandparents who lived near the sea."

Katie likes to work from quick sketches, using paint and collage to build layers and add texture and detail, whether it be for a painting or design. She fell in love with clay as the tactile nature the material and its infinite possibilities keep her mind whirring with new ideas.

She frequently feels as though she was born in the wrong era and as a result, she can often be found in museums, old buildings and secondhand shops: "I have more collections of items and ephemera from bygone times, than I have space. Where possible, I like to incorporate history and folklore into my work. The beautiful illustrations and forgotten language in my collection of old bird books is always a source of inspiration and has played a big role in the direction of my most recent work."

My collection of old natural history books, as well as the finds I have gathered over the years whilst walking are always a source of inspiration and have played a big role in the direction of my work."
