Trained as an anthropologist, then a teacher before taking a ceramic course at Chesterfield College of Art (1976-9) After six months apprenticeship with Sue Atkins at the Poterie du Don in the Auvergne, France, shared a workshop with John Gibson in Matlock until 1988 then built a workshop at home.

Decoration is by pouring slips thinly or applied thickly by brush on the wheel to give a 'wrapped' look. Pots are thrown on a momentum wheel or slab built in earthenware clay. The pieces are raw glazed with a lead bisilicate clear glaze, decorated with coloured glazes and fired to cone 03 in an electric kiln.
