Rising Stars is a platform for some of the most exciting new crafts by emerging makers in crafts, design and applied arts - this year, the exhibition is bigger than ever, following a record number of applications.
This curated, selling exhibition will be showcased at the New Ashgate Gallery and also include a programme of makers' professional development events and a £500 prize. The participants are graduating students, recent graduates or at a pivotal moment in their early career due to changed circumstances.
This year, the project received 109 applications. 30 makers have been selected for the exhibition by a panel of craft professionals, focusing on their potential and talent; Rebecca Skeels, Course Leader for Postgraduate Programmes, School of Craft and Design, University for the Creative Arts, Gemma Curtis, Crafts Programme Coordinator, the Farnham Maltings and Dr Outi Remes, Director, New Ashgate Gallery.
Many of the graduating makers are at cross roads: they have a full portfolio of fabulous ideas, but are yet to establish their business skills and a network of collectors. Rising Stars offers just the right platform, and for many, it is a starting point for an exceptional career. Rising Stars is an opportunity for both makers as well as art collectors who wish to support and collect work by future stars.
The selected makers of exceptional talent are: Angelina Jane, Arra Textiles, Louise Bell, Georgia Buck, Holly Burton, Eve Campbell, Jenny Chan, Sara Chyan, Kim Colebrook, Mihaela Coman, Natalie Eagle, Tamir Erlich, Alice Funge, Alysa Freeman, Susanna Gogarty, Iona Hall, Qiang Li, Marek Liska, Sam Lucas, Ruth Martindale, Bekky May, Annette Mills, Poppy Norton, Benjamin Pearey, Mitch Pilkington, Nastassia Ramazankhani, Kyle Ramsey, Catherine Rua, Jinya Zhao and Marissa Ziesing.
Rising Stars is organised by the New Ashgate Gallery and supported by the Billmeir Charitable Trust. We work in partnership with the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham.

Sterling Silver, Resin Clay
Angelina Jane (Angelina Mouyiaris)
2004 BA (Hons) Design Craft, Hereford College of Arts (invited maker - a pivotal moment in the career)
Angelina creates innovative geometric jewellery that connects together in playful interchangeable combinations with the use of strong earth magnets. These sculptural pieces are formed out of silver and resin, with the newest range made out of hand carved epoxy clay and silver, most featuring bilateral coloured surfaces.
Her work evokes curiosity and creates a unique connection between the object and wearer by its versatility, encouraging interaction and a sense of play. Her colourful jewellery is inspired by narrative and memory, communicating through abstract interpretations of sound waves that are brought together to create bold interactive pieces.
The concept behind her collection has been refined over the last few years, but only recently (last 18 months) been realised into an exciting and innovative collection.
Angelina is based in Hereford.
