Christopher Sercombe

Christopher Sercombe's paintings are responses to places (landscapes) and objects (still-lifes) that have become familiar to me through everyday association. Direct observation is an essential part of his working process, and he finds this helps to develop ideas about light, form, colour and composition, expressed simply and directly through the process of painting. Christopher hopes that each picture speaks for itself as a convincing and compelling visual statement. Influences include Chardin, Seurat, Gwen John and Morandi.
Christopher studied at the West Surrey College of Art and Design, 1991-2. He also has a BA Hons in Fne Art (1st) from the Canterbury Christ Church University, 2000-3, and an MA in Fine Art from the Canterbury Christ Church University 2003-5.
