Su Rogers' ceramics are hand-built using the coiling method predominantly from Stoneware and can be used inside or outside. Coiling involves hand rolled "sausages" of clay which are then joined and smoothed with metal tools. Colour is created with "slip" and patterned using a sgraffito pen. The stream-line shapes, vibrant colours and modern sgraffito designs belie little of the root of the technique but are grounded by ancient coiling, incising and slip decoration.
Su's geometric designs are inspired by designs often seen in Aztec and African art as well as the natural organic world we see in our immediate environment. Most importantly, her sketch book is always at hand to record those special occasions from which new designs will spring.
Su creates work which draws the viewer in creating a sense of nostalgia and cherished memories. Su likes to evoke her personality and passion for design, colour and indeed life into each one of her pieces, and hopes that this zest is translated to the viewer.
Su aims to create pots which are all individual and unique pieces of art that can be a focal point in your garden or home. Su graduated from UCA Farnham in 2009 and runs the Bus Stop Pottery from her studio in Hampshire, as well as teaching regular ceramics courses and workshops; she shows her work regularly at local and national ceramics fairs.
