Following on from a very successful Farnham Views Part 1, we are delighted to bring together two more local artists and their observations of the town and surrounding areas.
Before retirement John Bryce worked as a research scientist at the Royal Aerospace Establishment, Farnborough. He now pursues an active career as a painter and printmaker. As a wood engraver, John produces original limited edition prints. The process involves engraving an image onto an end-grain boxwood block. This is then inked and printed onto paper using a Victorian Albion Press. John is very influenced by the effects of light as they occur in the sky, on buildings and on water and he has tried to depict this in his recent wood engravings. He uses the engraving tools to cut a variety of marks on the block to express the drama and mood of an experienced event.
Susie Lidstone has been painting for some 30 years and works from her small studio in Farnham. Susie trained in Fine Art Printmaking at West Surrey College of Art and Design and has gone on to accept commissions from all over the world. Susie is one of only a few women worldwide to be a full member of The Society of Architectural Illustration. Fascinated by the architecture of Farnham and all its alleyways, Susie enjoys capturing the hidden parts of Farnham and the shops that have gone but form so much of the history of the market town.
Meet Susie on Friday 8 September, 10.30-12.30 & 13.30-4.30 when she will be working in the gallery on a new artwork and is available to discuss her work and bepoke commissions for your home.
Susie and John's work is shown with award-winning classic trugs by Jane Crisp, inspired by local heritage and low tech processes.
