City Life

29 April to 17 June 2017

City Life

City living can be an eye-opening experience. Any person who has lived in a city has had a crash course in life. The city never sleeps. It is expensive and noisy with busy streets and overcrowded tube rides. Yet, it is vibrant, surprising and energetic. City life is inspiring in its diversity and rich in history, architecture, arts and culture. The city is full of opportunity and a sense of endless possibility. Living in a city can be a love-hate relationship that often, one cannot imagine living without.

The exhibition presents work by Mychael Barratt, Clare Caulfield, Helen Chatterton, Janet Curley Cannon, John Duffin, Raewyn Harrison, Colin Moore, Nick Tankard, Chris Wood, and many more.

Join us for a demo & to meet painter & printmaker Chris Wood: "Line, Form & Process: Lino Cutting Demonstration" on Saturday 10 June at 2pm

Raewyn Harrison

Raewyn Harrison is a London based ceramic artist who grew up by the sea in New Zealand, two vastly distant locations that influence her work. She creates porcelain collections with a strong narrative based on sites and structures that fascinate her. Her trade mark dribble edges are combined with her own glaze for fragmenting image, making each piece unique.
The River Thames is a constant source of inspiration and led her to delve into the archives of Elizabethan Maps and 18th Century panoramas of London. Fragments of these images form the basis of her Mud Larking series.
She has created industrial panoramas for her porcelain bottles using distinctive photography of the last remaining Bottle Kilns in Stoke on Trent.
Research, photography and making evolve into a mix of image, form and story.
Raewyn uses a variety of techniques throughout her making process combining slip casting, throwing and hand building to achieve her iconic pieces.
