The selection of work on exhibition representss the main themes and styles that Richard has pursued and developed over the past 30-40 years - a mini retrospective and the first comprehensive show in the UK.
Richard's sculptures are predominantly wood, stone and steel, three basic materials with very strong individual characteristics. He uses the contrasts of materials mixed with natural form, textures and the various working methods to create expression and passion for the subject.
The work in most cases is figurative and like many artists he is inspired by people and our environment. It is both social and biographical, his intuituve or calculated response to the changing times, thoughts and images around us. Creating form with elegance, passion, anguish, humor, balance, displaced and tense within nature.
Art should create an emotional response to the viewer.
