Artist Statement
Rob studied for his ceramics degree at Cardiff College of Art, and during the 25 years since has been making and teaching ceramics in EastAnglia and the south of France. Rob works in a converted Methodist chapel in the village of Woodnewton in east Northamptonshire, where there are also woodcarving and puppet-making studios and a showroom. The centre is open to the public, and he runs weekend maiolica decorating courses.
Rob produces colourful maiolica pottery which is designed and priced to be suitable for everyday use. Typical items include bowls, goblets and casserole dishes as well as larger individual pots and complete dinner services. Plates are made on a jigger and jolley and all other pieces are hand thrown. Decoration is lively and is applied mainly with brushes and shaped sponges.
