Artist Statement

I am increasingly interested in making smaller more intimate work - where the images continue unexpectedly over the sides of the canvas; like an ornate box lid. These paintings can be enjoyed from multiple view points.

Many of my small canvases can be placed together, perhaps to make a continuous image.

The paint is often layered and scratched away revealing what was underneath. I build the paint up and take it away. This process may happen again and again.

I have always enjoyed using mixed media when working, and having started a textile degree course before changing to Painting- my love of surface design is apparent. Inspired by Paul Klee's use of canvas patches, I have used the patches to break up the surface. In some cases the patches become a painting within a painting.
