Vivienne Ross Work by this artist

Artist Statement

Vivienne Ross is based in Stoke on Trent. All the work is made using red earthenware clay which is decorated using coloured slips and underglazes. Her interest lies in making pots which act as containers for both objects and ideas. The shapes are kept simple using hand made processes such as press-moulding, slabbing and coiling. The figurative decoration, often described as dreamlike, is achieved using stencils, brushwork and sgraffito. Her work is sold through selected galleries in Britain and the USA.

Each piece is unique; hand-made, individually decorated and signed. I work with a red earthenware clay which is decorated using coloured slips and glazes. My interest lies in making pots, which act as a container for both objects and ideas. The shapes are kept simple, made using hand-processes such as press-moulding, coiling and slabbing. With a restricted palette of clours and figures I work intuitivaly and spontaneously allowing my everyday thoughts, pre-occupations and sometimes anxietes to dictate the direction of the images created. The figurative decoration, often described as dreamlike, is achieved using brushwork, stencils and sgraffito. ultimately I would like to let the viewer bring their own interpretation to the work.
