Sonia Rollo was educated at the University of Glasgow, graduating with a degree in Agricultural Botany. She worked in publishing as the editor of a scientific journal, Chemoreception Abstracts.

In 1988 she started studying printmaking at Morley College. In 1990 she was a founder member of Halfmoon Printmakers. She is the treasurer of Southbank Printmakers, a former chair of Greenwich Printmakers and a former vice-chair of the Printmakers Council.
