10.05-12.45: Get a Grip! The essentials of money management by Alison Branagan
We will explore how to value time, and discover the basics of costing and pricing artworks, craft pieces and design time. Understanding more about money management and how to work out your cashflow are essential building blocks to being able to make your practice or business sustainable. We will also browse through some options regarding keeping your books, from basic Excel to contemporary cloud solutions.
Please bring along the following: photographs of your work or an actual piece if small and portable, pencil/pen and notebook, calculator/or mobile phone calculator app.
Alison Branagan is an author and visual arts consultant and an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins. She has written several business start-up and enterprise books and has studied different approaches to teaching business theory and enterprise skills. She has also devised and facilitated upon many enterprise projects for universities and business support organisations. She has a Masters degree in Applied Art and Visual Culture, is an Associate of the Institute of Consulting, a Member of the Society of Authors and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is also an associate of the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education and has been a mentor for the Craft's Council Hothouse Programme.

Kerry Lemon talks about how she has turned a passion for drawing into a full time career as an artist for the past 11 years. Kerry is passionate about sharing her skills in business and marketing to help aspiring artists to build a sustainable and fulfilling career in the arts. Working internationally with luxury brands across print, retail, public art and architecture, Kerry has built a diverse portfolio with clients including: Liberty, Harvey Nichols, Sony Japan, Virgin and Harrods. Caroline Jackman is a key member of the learning and talent team at the Crafts Council that co-ordinates learning across all education stages to managing and delivering the Crafts Council’s professional and business development programmes for makers.
